NOS National Occupational Standards (Social Work)

CIS Common Induction Standards – the new revised standards from Skills for Care consultation is still taking place. My understanding is that will be in place by September 2006. But are being used now in training programmes.

GSCC General Social Care Council Codes of practice for Social Care Workers

The Children´s Workforce Development Council has developed a set of draft Common Induction Standards (CIS) that can be used across different areas of children´s services. Consultation on the CIS continues until the end of February 2006.

  • Work is being done in parallel with the CIS–CS development to map CIS Units against the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Children´s Care Learning and Development (CCLD) at level 2, Health and Social Care (HSC) Children and Young People at level 3 and Learning, Development and Support Services at level 3.
  • The CIS–CS Units will be linked across to the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge to ensure relevant compliance with key knowledge and skill areas identified in the Common Core.
  • They will also be completed to link the CIS–CS with other workforce specific standards which apply to foster carers and childminders: the final version of the standards will be written in a way that acknowledges that significant numbers of the workforce work at home.
  • They will also be completed to link the new standards with relevant Codes of Practice, in particular those from the General Social Care Council.
